About the Beechcraft 35

The Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza is a single-engine, four-seat light aircraft, distinguished by its V-tail. Beech Aircraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas, built the type, with production running from 1947 to 1982.

More than 200 Bonanzas remain on the U.S. civil registry, giving the Model 35 the 14th-largest active fleet among Beechcraft models. More than 1,000 airframes have been removed from the registry over the type's history, about 80% of every Model 35 ever registered.

The Model 35 records about 2.5 accidents per 1,000 aircraft-years over its FAA-registration exposure. Measured against aircraft of the same class, engine type, and seat range, the type posts a lower accident rate than most, ranking in roughly the lowest tenth. Of 19 accidents on record, 2 involved a fatality.

Safety Analysis

Composition of NTSB accident records for this model in general-aviation operations (FAR Part 91 and 137), based on NTSB data as of May 1, 2026. It's a breakdown of recorded accidents rather than a safety rating, and types with significant non-GA operation (such as Part 135) may be under-represented.

Comparison

Within its peer cohort

Within this model's peer class (same aircraft type, engine class, and seat range), comparison of its share of recorded NTSB accidents to its share of FAA registration exposure (aircraft-years since 2008).

This is a share comparison, not flight-hours adjusted, so a model flown more per airframe than its peers will show an accident share above its exposure share even if its per-hour safety is average. Methodology →
